Devoted readers of this blog, all four of you, might remember that I’ve recently been experiencing Arrested Development for the first time.
Bearing that in mind, I’d like to tell all of you that if you are missing Arrested Development like I am (wow, it ends so suddenly! Have you all been waiting this long for it to return? No wonder you wouldn’t shut up about it), you should read A. M. Homes’ new book, May We Be Forgiven.
The fact that it is very similar to Arrested Development is actually only a tiny reason why—I love Homes, have for a long time, and think you ought to read everything she’s written. There’s something about the cold and daring mania of her fiction that drives me wild. But I think it’s more effective to tell people that this is the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together.
